DIVERS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

2/A – Brain sponge - Chondrilla nucula

A round, greenish-brown, cushion-shaped sponge. These cushions, ranging a few centimeters in size, more or less elongated, are connected to form very widespread colonies. The greenish coloration is due to symbiotic cyanobacteria, which restrict the species to living in environments well exposed to the light.
