4/A – Sea anemone - Anemonia viridis This anemone has long flexible tentacles (up to a few hundred) and few retractable ones arranged in six concentric rows, that as a rule hide the column. The base of the foot is wide and varies in color from white to grayish-purple to greenish yellow, while the tips are pink-purple due to the presence of symbiotic algae. It lives on rocky beds a few meters to more than 20 m deep. It prefers lighted areas for photosynthesis by the symbiotic algae in its tentacles. The larger individuals are generally found in the deepest areas. It feeds off small, invertebrate, fish. |
