5/A – Fan tube worm - Sabella spallanzanii

A worm belonging to the sedentary polychaetes, this worm lives inside a chitinous pipe that it constructs by itself. The branchial tuft, for respiration and capturing the plankton it feeds off, is all we can observe. Arranged in a spiral with several coils, the tuft can vary widely in color: white, brown, violet, yellow or reddish, each with infinite tones. It is present both in rocky beds, and in fields and mobile beds.
